Description:
The Feldherrnhalle, a monumental open-air hall located on the Odeonsplatz in Munich. The city built the hall to honor the past victories and traditions of the Bavarian Army. King Ludwig I of Bavaria ordered the building of this hall in 1841. Architect Friedrich von Gärtner designed it to look like the famous Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, Italy. In 1923, this site saw a brief gun battle that stopped Hitler's first attempt to take power, known as the Beer Hall Putsch. The stone arches hold large bronze statues of famous Bavarian military leaders, including Count Tilly and Field Marshal Wrede.
